Dussehra festival is one of the most important and longest festivals of India. It is celebrated every year with zeal, faith, love and respect by people of Hinduism all over the country. This is truly a great time to be enjoyed by all. Students also get holidays from their schools and colleges for several days to fully enjoy the festival of Dussehra. This festival falls every year in the month of September or October, two or three weeks before Diwali. People wait for this festival with great patience.
India is a country which is very famous for its culture and tradition, fair and festivals. It is a country of fairs and festivals where people celebrate and enjoy every festival with great joy and faith. The festival of Dussehra has declared by the Government of India as a gazetted holiday so that people can enjoy the festival to its fullest and at the same time give importance to the Hindu festival. Dussehra means the victory of Lord Rama over the ten major demon king Ravana. The actual meaning of the word Dussehra the defeat of the ten-headed (Dash head) demon on the tenth day of this festival. The tenth day of this festival celebrated by burning Ravana clones by people all over the country.
According to the customs and traditions of the people in many areas of the country, there many myths associated with this festival. The festival began on the day celebrated by the people of Hinduism, the day Lord Rama killed the demon king Ravana on the day of Dussehra (meaning the 10th day of the Ashtabhuja month of the Hindu calendar). Lord Rama killed Ravana because he kidnapped Mata Sita and did not agree to return Lord Rama.
